Christopher Columbus’s first landfall in the New World was on an island he named San Salvador (known to the Lucayans as Guanahahani) which may be Samana Cay or present-day San Salvador Island (also known as Watling’s Island), in the central part of the Bahamas archipelago. In 1973, the Bahamas became fully independent, but retained membership in the Commonwealth of Nations. The Bahamas national football team is the national team of the Bahamas and is controlled by the Bahamas Football Association.
The Bahamas is one of the wealthiest Caribbean countries with an economy heavily dependent on tourism and offshore banking. The Bahamas were a Crown colony from 1717 until they were granted internal self-government in 1964. The government fully operates 158 of the 210 primary and secondary schools in The Bahamas. For decades, the white-dominated United Bahamian Party (UBP) ruled The Bahamas, then a dependency of the United Kingdom, while a group of influential white merchants, known as the “Bay Street Boys,” dominated the local economy.
The Bahamas imports more than $250 million in foodstuffs per year, representing about 80% of its food consumption. The Government of The Bahamas welcomes foreign investment in tourism and banking and has declared an interest in agricultural and industrial investments to generate local employment, particularly in white-collar or skilled jobs. The United States and The Bahamas also actively cooperate on law enforcement, civil aviation, marine research, meteorology, and agricultural issues.
Although many attribute Bahamian ‘island time’ to its location and the Caribbean stereotypes of mellowness, The Bahamas is not actually classified as a Caribbean country, since it dwells in the Atlantic Ocean. The Bahamas is a tropical island chain in the Caribbean Sea, popular as a tourist destination. The largest airports in the Bahamas are at the capital Nassau, on New Providence, and Freeport, on Grand Bahama. The College of The Bahamas is the main institution that offers post secondary education in the country with several schools including and undergraduate business school, an undergraduate social science.
Independent from the United Kingdom since 1973, the Bahamas is a Commonwealth nation with a century-old democratic tradition. Tourists who arrive by private boat are required to declare firearms to Bahamian Customs and leave firearms on the boat while in the Bahamas. The Bahamas enjoys a high per capita income, but there are imbalances in the distribution of wealth, most of which is concentrated in the commercial and tourist centres.
For further information on firearms in the Bahamas, contact the High Commission for the Commonwealth of the Bahamas.

Bangladesh is among the most densely populated countries in the world and has a high poverty rate. Bangladesh’s relationship with India began on a positive note because of India’s assistance in the independence war and reconstruction. Bangladeshis make distinctive sweetmeats from milk products; some common ones are Rashogolla, Chm and Kalojam. Bangladesh’s textile industry, which includes knitwear and ready-made garments along with specialised textile products, is the nation’s number one export earner.
Bangladeshis regard democracy as an important legacy of their bloody war for independence and vote in large numbers. Bangladesh introduced the caretaker system in 1991 after military president Hossain Mohammad Ershad was toppled through a people’s uprising led jointly by Khaleda and Sheikh Hasina, who now heads the main opposition party, the Awami League.
Bangladesh is a developing country with poor infrastructure. Bangladesh is ranked 27th out of 30 countries in the Asia Pacific region. Bangladesh has ratified all the main international human rights treaties. After its independence, Bangladesh became a parliamentary democracy, with Mujib as the Prime Minister. Meanwhile the Bangladesh Military has expressed their interest in controlling the country with statements like “own brand of Democracy” and making changes in the constitution to allow military participation in politics.
Straddling in the Tropic of Cancer, Bangladeshi climate is tropical with a mild winter from October to March, a hot, humid summer from March to June. The region has been a source for ethnic tension since the inception of Bangladesh. The Bengali language boasts a rich literary heritage, which Bangladesh shares with the Indian state of West Bengal. Due to a number of factors, Bangladesh’s labor-intensive agriculture has achieved steady increases in food grain production despite the often unfavorable weather conditions. Currently, Bangladeshi entrepreneurs generally suffer from lack of funding as many banks are reluctant to invest in industry and have instead turned their attention to consumer credit.
1974, Pakistan agreed to recognize the independent state of Bangladesh. In addition, the Consulate Generals complement the efforts of the Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC to advance the economic, cultural, immigration and other interests of Bangladesh in the United States. The first government of the new nation of Bangladesh was formed in Dhaka with Justice Abu Sayeed Choudhury as President, and Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (“Mujib”)–who was released from Pakistani prison in early 1972–as Prime Minister.
Subsequently, the Anti-Corruption Commission has filed more corruption cases against Bangladesh’s two most influential political leaders.

Seville, situated in the south of Spain is an historical, cultural and financial center of the province of Sevilla. The two thousand years of its history have seen many different groups of people settling in its surrounding area and they have all added to its vibrant and colorful development.
Seville’s main tourist season is from August to September and during the times of the annual festivals. It is a treat to experience the city during these festivals. Seville hosts a week long somber religious festival, known as Semana Santa (Holy Week). During the festival, hooded penitents march along the crowd-packed streets followed by large floats. The week after the Semana Santa festival, Seville hosts an annual performance known as Feria de Abril (April Fair). It runs for a week, but in contrast to the Semana Santa it is lively and full of fun. You will find thousands of marquis, and be able to enjoy food, drinking and dancing at all times of day or night. You will be able to see men mounted on stunning horses and women wearing striking flamenco dresses.
If you enjoy flamenco, you can watch flamenco performances that occur during the day. Seville boasts a gastronomically pleasing cuisine that reflects its rich history and culture. Try one of the many tapas bars that can be found in the city. You can enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides around the cathedral that will take you through parks and past other attractions of interest. It is simple to book walking tours of the city, the cathedral or the alcazar palace. Bull fights occur at the Plaza de Toros de la Real Maestranza. It is certainly an interesting experience for those who are not squeamish. Open air markets are set up in most parts of the city and they are pleasant to wander through. Be aware, however, that most vendors are closed on Sunday.
You can rent a bike in Maria Luisa Park or climb to the top of the Cerro de Carambolo. This hill is outside the city, although it is easily accessible and is worth the trip for the view of the city from the top. You can also choose to take a boat cruise along the River Guadalquivir.
There is a large variety of accommodation available in Seville. In fact, it boasts approximately 20,000 sleeping options. You can find luxury hotels down to simple guest houses. Many townhouses been converted into guest accommodation and these are often charming little hotels with Andalusian style architecture and pretty courtyards. Be aware that many of the cheaper hotels are undergoing renovations in order to upgrade into smarter hotels. This is inflating the prices of some of the previously inexpensive sleeping options and they are becoming harder to find.
Especially during the summer months, from August to September and during the annual festivals, in April, Seville is a popular tourist destination and as such its holiday accommodation books up quickly. Book your accommodation well in advance if you are coming during those times or you may find that you cannot get a room.

There are many options to take into consideration when deciding on how you would like to spend your honeymoon and where to go for your honeymoon, while trying to decide on the perfect venues for your honeymoon, whether it’s in Paris or a tropical paradise island. Basically, the honeymoon is almost as important as the wedding itself, this is why it has now become a standard in most wedding packages.
For many newlyweds, being able to get a wedding package that features honeymoon deals as part of the package is like hitting two birds with one stone.
Most honeymoon deals supported by wedding packages are very good, but newlyweds or soon to be newlyweds should consider a number of important things before making the final decision on which inclusive wedding package to choose from. Here are some pointers to consider:
Honeymoon/Wedding Package Booking Schedule
The honeymoon/wedding package’s booking schedule is very important as it details the specifics of the departure time; which many honeymooners make the mistake of scheduling the departure time too early in the morning, the day after the wedding. Not realizing just how stressful the wedding day is, including the reunion of long time friends and family, a long night of dancing, drinking and having fun including all the many related concerns and issues that come with the whole wedding process.
With this in mind, could you see how tired and stressful it can be by scheduling the honeymoon departure to early in the morning?
Probably one of the most common factors when choosing the honeymoon and wedding package is where your budget stands.
As we all know, money doesn’t grow on trees and many people tend to hold off on getting married right away in order to save enough money for their perfect wedding. Not only do you to need to have the money for the wedding but you need to consider the cost of normal day to day life once these important events have passed.
Also by having the financial issues out of the way, you can be sure to be more focused on the wedding and honeymoon as well as being able to enjoy yourself that much more.
Don’t be shy about your honeymoon.
Let people know you are on your honeymoon and you’ll be sure to receive the best treatment and service. You are there to have a good time and by letting those around you know, many people will help to ensure you have a magical time on your honeymoon.
Taking these pointers into consideration can prove to make your wedding and honeymoon the most enjoyable and memorable event of your life.

Rome: Powerful Empire, Great Tourist Destination Filed under:

Rome was founded as far back 753 BC by the twins, Romulus and Remus. It grew substantially until it became the Roman Empire which was ruled by an Emperor from the year 27 BC.
The Roman Empire became a political and economic center for the Western World. Its influence stretched far and wide and it was said that “all roads lead to Rome.” This most powerful Empire, however, fell in 476 AD. It had a bumpy history following its fall. The city retained its status as the capital of the Papal States and later on it became a center of culture and artistic activity which it has somewhat retained to this day.
Over its turbulent history, the population in the area has risen and fallen depending on the trend of the time. In modern times, Rome seems to once again be on an upward climb in terms of its permanent population.
It is a very popular tourist destination seeing approximately ten million tourists through its city every year. The city is a city of contrasts. On the one hand, tourists will find busy thoroughfares and expensive prices. On the other hand, it is full of small shady parks, fountains and piazzas. It is full of ancient ruins, famous monuments and fascinating museums. You can view the remains of ancient times, see the fantastic architecture from the Renaissance period, enjoy a gastronomical treat in a traditional Italian restaurant or relax in the gardens of European royalty.
Due to the huge number of tourists that visit Rome annually there are a vast number of holiday accommodation options to choose from. From the traditional to the unique, visitors can choose the place that appeals to them most. Hotels are a popular accommodation choice in Rome. They range greatly in price and quality. You can choose to stay in luxury hotel or you can easily find a budget hotel often in the area surrounding Termini Station.
Holiday apartments or villas can be found to rent. These are a good option for small groups or families as they provide more space and privacy than a hotel. Bed and breakfasts are fast becoming popular in Rome. If you go for this option be prepared that they may simply be a room in some-one’s house.
For those who are traveling alone or who are looking for a cheap accommodation option, many convents open their doors to paying travelers. These convents are strongly Catholic and they may only accept Catholic guests who book their rooms through their local church. Many, however, will accept guests of any religion as long as they are prepared to stay in a Catholic environment and abide by the convent’s rules.

How To Persuade A Hotel To Lower Their Price Filed under:

It is very surprising how many people don’t even give a moment’s thought to trying to get a lower price from the hotel than the one they are advertising in their brochures or on their website. Think about the last time you booked a hotel room – did you ask for a discount? Or a free upgrade? It is unlikely, most people don’t. Yet the hotels do allow for this in their prices, and by haggling a little you will be very surprised just how easy it is to get a much cheaper price.
It should be relatively easy to get a 10% discount very quickly, but in some cases it is possible to achieve up to a 40% discount for exactly the same room and service without any trouble.
So how is it possible to do this? There are a few simple rules to follow, and then it really is all down to confidence. Most people are very shy when it comes to asking for a discount, and feel either that it makes them look cheap or rude. The truth is, it is your right to haggle on price. Think about it – when you buy a house, do you simply hand over the full asking price? No, of course not, you offer a much lower price, then wait for the seller to either accept your offer or decline it, and give you the chance to raise yours.
Very much the same is done when you buy a car – you will discuss the price and then put an offer in below the marked price. It is expected. If such large and serious purchases permit, or even expect, for you to haggle on price, how much more of a right is it to do the same thing when it comes to booking hotel accommodation? They can only say no, and if they do, they’re effectively turning away a potential customer.
Once you think of things this way, you’ll begin to pluck up the courage to do it. Another little tip to try if you are really nervous is to try a hotel you have no intention of staying at, and then by knowing you really don’t have anything to lose, you can try to get the listed price down. This will give you some practice, and once you see just how successful you can be, and how easy it is, you’ll be much more confident about having a go with the hotel you really want to stay at.
Always make sure that you do the haggling directly with the hotel, and not through a third party agent who won’t be prepared or able to do this for you. Don’t forget that the third party agents will be getting a commission from your booking – which means they have already negotiated a lower price from the hotel. By reducing the hotel’s price further, they are effectively eating in to their own commission – and they’ll be unlikely to do this for you!
By speaking directly with the hotel, you stand a much better chance. It also helps to call two or three times, at different times, so that you speak to different members of staff. One may be much more flexible than another, and so of course, you keep a record of the discounts offered, and then take up whichever was the lowest.

How To Help Other People Looking For Hotels Filed under:

It’s often hard to know how to go about choosing a hotel for your holiday. The website and glossy brochures will portray the hotel as a fabulous location full of luxury and glamour, but what is it like really? When so much is at stake, both financially and also as far as your valuable holiday time is concerned, you want to make sure you are making the right choice, and the service, facilities, noise and general state of the hotel is up to a good standard. What is the food like? Is it good value for money? Are the staff friendly and helpful? These are things which are of great importance, but cannot be demonstrated in any way at all through a website or brochure.
The most reliable way of knowing which hotels are worth staying in is through a personal recommendation, and if a family member or friend has stayed somewhere and recommended it, this can help put your mind at rest, and help you make a choice. However, the chances that someone you happen to know has recently stayed at the same location you are planning to visit is unlikely, and this leaves you in a difficult situation.
There are a number of excellent travel guides available in bookshops and at tourist information centers, and although these are almost always written quite independently and so the descriptions and verdicts of the hotel are written by people who are paid to inspect, or even stay at, the particular hotel, these reviews can often be a year out of date. These guides are usually annual editions, and the staff turnover, facilities and standards can change much more quickly than that, and so this doesn’t give you the best advice. In addition to which, the people who write these books have a very wide range of experience of hotels, and their standards and expectations might be very different from the average family holidaymaker’s.
Fortunately the internet has provided an alternative which works extremely successfully, although still to this day a relatively disjointed one. There are a number of travel and holiday websites which offer a review service, not run by the people who own the site, but by real genuine holiday makers such as yourself. These reviews are written by people who have recently stayed in a hotel, and have then very shortly afterwards written their own review about their experience. These are very much more up to date, often published within a week of the reviewer having stayed at the hotel, and will be written by non professional writers who are simply, like yourself, looking for a pleasant holiday.
Often these reviews will be categorized into types of traveler – either business people, individual travelers, family holiday makers, couples and so on, so that you can more easily identify with the type of expectations that the reviewer had.
One way in which you can help to improve this system for everybody is to add reviews yourself. Whenever you stay at a hotel or any other kind of accommodation, try to leave a review as soon as possible. There are so many websites to choose from, but if you booked it through an agent’s site they may well have the facility for you to add a review on their own site. By adding your honest review, you will be helping future holiday makers to make more informed decisions, and in return, you may well benefit yourself by reading reviews left by others.

How To Survive In A Hotel Room Filed under:

Possibly, you may be very lucky and get the world’s most perfect hotel room, but for the average holiday maker staying at a hotel can cause occasional challenges to convenience or comfort. Here are a few tips to help you to survive all the difficulties unscathed.
The first tip is to take one of those inflatable pillows with you. They take up no room at all in your bags of course, and are very easy to inflate without the need for any pump. They are usually covered with a comfortable flock material, and will help you relax on the airplane, and will also help to boost the pillows in your hotel room, which are invariably flat and lack support. Using one of these to boost your pillows will help you to get a good night’s sleep and wake up feeling more refreshed, and not in need of a hot shower to sort out your stiff neck.
Another tip is to take with you a scented candle or plug in air freshener. If you have been given a smoking room by mistake when you asked for a non-smoking room, certainly, the first thing you should do is to complain and ask to be moved. If this isn’t possible, or you are simply too tired to be bothered to move, or the room simply smells unfamiliar or musty, light a candle or plug in the freshener and your room will smell familiar, pleasant and far more agreeable very quickly. Sure, for security reasons you should never leave the candle unattended, either whilst you have a bath or sleep.
If you need to wake up by a certain time, either to make sure you’re in time for breakfast, or simply to make best use of your day, don’t rely on the hotel to do this. Sometimes they do, sometimes they forget, and sometimes they’re simply late. Instead, take a travel alarm clock with you which will be more reliable. A battery operated on is perfect, as long, certainly, as your batteries are fresh, and you have a spare set. Do also remember to change the time if you have moved to a different time zone. It’s easily forgotten when you’re off to bed and tired after a long journey!
It can often be the situation that the water provided in hotels is rather chlorinated, and even if this isn’t this particular situation, it could be harder or softer than you’re used to, and the unfamiliar taste can prove to be unpleasant. Instead, take bottled water with you, and then you are guaranteed to have fresh, pleasant tasting water to keep you going.
Another little tip is to take tea bags with you. These have two uses: the first is obviously to make tea with. The tea bags left in your room are usually cheap and fairly tasteless, so having your own will be a very much more tasteful and refreshing experience. In addition to which, if you have had a long journey and your eyes are puffy, soak the tea bags in water and lay one against each of your eyes; they will help to sooth your eyes and reduce the puffiness.
Finally, take an iPod or personal music player with you. If there are unfamiliar noises, such as city sounds outside when you’re used to living in a rural area, or just unfortunately noisy neighbours, having this item playing some soothing music will drown out any ambient noises and help you to get to sleep better. Alternatively, a pair of ear plugs will help too.
These are just a few tried and tested methods used by those who have experienced hotels and have learned how to survive them.

Factors To Consider While Booking A Hotel Filed under:
Travel, Travelling Tips on
23
May
|
Whether you are booking a hotel for yourself, or for your family, or even for a large group such as a work trip or group of friends, there will be a number of varying factors that you will need to take into account when making your decisions. This can certainly seem quite bewildering, and can prove difficult to know where to start.
On top of which, once you decide to do the research online, you may well come across a range of websites which allow you to search for hotels by using filters. These are search engines specifically designed to display relevant hotels based on your criteria. It is important to have a reasonable idea of what you need in advance of starting your research. Otherwise it can be too easy to become sold on the range of extra options and amenities which will be displayed in glossy Technicolor, along with slick sales pitches that tell you what you want, even before you know it yourself.
It may well be that price is the most important factor, and in almost every case it is at least going to be one of the most significant factors in anyone’s choice of hotel. However, it’s also too easy to start restricting yourself too early on by ignoring the possibilities of the hotels just a little above your budget. So, it’s worth being flexible in your investigation, and pushing the limits of budget above your target, just to give yourself the opportunity of seeing what is available.
Remember, even though you may be looking at hotels above your target price, it is unlikely that you will end up paying these prices. Many people do, but forget that you are quite able to haggle. In addition to which, if you check the prices on the search engines, then go to the hotel’s website directly, you’ll often find that either the hotel offers a discount for booking directly, or that it offers a guaranteed lowest price, beating any other price listed on the internet. In addition to which, if you telephone the hotel rather than use the website, you will have the opportunity of haggling on the price and trying to get it even lower.
Using these techniques you may well find that you are able to get a hotel that would normally be above your budget, but for a very affordable price. So give yourself the chance to do this, and don’t limit yourself too early on.
Other factors to consider will of course be the location, and what amenities or facilities are available or included. Location will make a big difference on price, and being prepared to book a hotel that’s a little further from the beach or the city will bring the price down massively, allowing you to then upgrade the type of hotel you’re looking for. You might have to end up walking a little way, but since you’re on holiday, what’s the hurry? You might even find yourself discovering places you would have missed otherwise.
The facilities offered by the hotel are of more interest to some people than others. There are people who spend almost the whole holiday at the hotel enjoying its private beach, pool and bar. However, others simply sleep there and then get out to explore the area. If you’re the latter type, then it may also be worth considering hotels with far fewer facilities, because, again, this will decrease the price dramatically.
So, think about what your needs really are, and don’t be bamboozled by the sales pitches and glossy brochures! Be prepared to search for hotels above your target price, with a view to getting these reduced, and think very carefully about location and facilities, compared to your own needs and preferences.

Luggage And Liquids – How To Survive |
Today, because of the increased security required at most airports, the carrying on board of liquids is significantly reduced. In order to prevent problems whilst boarding you would be well advised to contact the airline well in advance of your intended day of travel to obtain an up to date description of what liquids you are allowed to take, and also in what quantities.
Generally most airlines today will limit you to 100 ml per liquid or per canister. Almost certainly the canisters and bottles you have at home in your bathroom will be sold in far greater volumes, and even trying to take on board a 150 or 200 ml canister could result in both a delay, and the loss of the entire canister, which could certainly cause some problems and inconvenience.
A little planning and preparation therefore will help to prevent any such inconveniences. One way in which you can effectively kill two birds with one stone is to invest in a set of small screw top canisters which can be purchased from most DIY stores and pharmacies. Making sure that the volume of these canisters is no more than 100 ml, transfer all of your necessary cosmetics into these canisters, remembering of course to label them properly, and then you can make quite sure that there is no risk of your bottles being confiscated due to oversize. But at the same time what you have also achieved is a reduction in the size of the bottles and containers that you take in your luggage. You don’t, after all, want to be taking a huge bottle which originally held 500 ml and now only contains 100 ml. The bottle won’t squash, but you will find that you are taking a good volume of fresh air in your luggage which you can’t use.
Another common problem as far as liquids are concerned is of course the risk of leakage. A glass bottle of perfume is of greater risk, but plastic bottles can crack, and the caps can be knocked off if the bag experiences a sudden knock. Therefore, how do you protect against the risk of leakage? The solution is quite simple. In addition to purchasing a number of small plastic containers for your cosmetics, buy a pack of sealable sandwich bags. These are the type of bag which is transparent, and has a sealable snap top which can be pressed shut to seal any liquid inside.
Place the canister individually into it own sandwich bag. Next, roll the bag up starting from the base. This ensures that you remove any excess air which might otherwise take up space in your bag, and like a balloon, be at greater risk of bursting itself. Once you have squeezed all the excess air out of the bag, seal it and pack it. In this way you will help to maximize the protection of your liquids. If you plan wisely you may find you are able to pack into these canisters only the amount of cosmetics you actually need for the duration of your holiday. Since the canisters and bags cost merely a few pence, if space is critical in your bag, why not simply discard the bags and canisters at the end of your holiday, and save a little extra room on the return trip?
