Portugal is a relatively small country with a rich culture and proud heritage. Tourists visiting Portugal are usually drawn by the mild climate and beautiful sandy beaches of the country. Portugal is regarded as one of the most rewarding travel destinations in Europe.
The coastline of Portugal stretches some 800km and all along it are some stunning villages and historical cities like Lisbon or Porto. The country borders with Spain to the north and the east and to the south and west lies the Atlantic Ocean.
The Archipelago of Madeira forms also part of Portugal. These island group is found 1000 kilometres southwest of Lisbon in the Atlantic Ocean. The airport on Madeira in the town of Santa Cruz on the east side is just an hour flight from Lisbon and also serves the other island of Porto Santo with smaller planes. This archipelago is really something special to enjoy.
To the south of Portugal we find the popular Algarve. The Algarve coastline has some of the finest beaches of Portugal. The region is popular with people taking a family holiday to Portugal and visitors who come to this area on golfing holidays. The Algarve has some of the finest golf courses in Europe and caters for golf players of all budgets and handicaps. Faro international airport is the natural gateway to this part of the country. At the airport we find all kind of tourist services, amongst them travel agencies, bars, restaurants, banks or car hire.
One of the most well know tourist resorts on the Algarve is Albufeira. It is a mere three-hour flight to Faro airport from most major European capitals with flights to the main airport in Faro. Albufeira boasts almost all-year sun, has great beaches and low prices, which are the main reasons why so many European visitors make the journey every year.
There is an extensive network of major routes that connect the Algarve to the rest of Portugal and the nation’s main cities. That is why renting a car when you arrive at Faro airport is certainly recommendable if you would like to discover the country on your own. Faro car hire is a useful way to travel around the Algarve. There are many interesting routes in the area that offer some truly amazing views. Remember that driving a rental car in the centre of large towns and popular resorts is best avoided if possible, because many of the streets are narrow and other vehicles parked alongside the street can make it difficult to pass with your rent a car.
Bear in mind that in Portugal it is compulsory for the driver and all passengers to wear seat belts. There may be heavy fines in case you do not comply with this rule. Children under 12 years old are not allowed to travel in the front seat of the rental car.
Towards the centre of the country we find the capital, Lisbon. Lisbon sits on a hilly terrain beside one of the most magnificent harbours in Europe. The area also has excellent beaches. Lisbon is internationally recognized as one of Western Europe’s most unspoiled cities. Many tourists also succumb to the temptation of visiting the delightful Sinatra and Cascais which are both easily accessible from Lisbon.
While travelling by car around Portugal, the discerning tourist cannot fail to be impressed by the numerous small villages. Many of these villages offer stunning geographical locations, one more reason to consider to rent a car in Portugal and discover the country at your own pace.
spain-travel-car.com is a popular car rental booking engine founded by Rudi van der Zalm. The site aims to help you find Spain car hire and Portugal car hire. Visit www.spain-travel-car.com for the latest information on low-cost car hire in Portugal and Spain.

There Are Many Hawaii News Channels Available On Most Of The Islands |
Whether you actually live in the area or are just visiting, you will find that most Hawaii news channels are either affiliates of the major networks, or broadcast by local cable access cable companies. If you are staying in a hotel, the choices for viewing will vary from island to island. As well, it will vary depending on if your hotel subscribes to satellite or cable. Both services are available on all islands. If you live in the area, then most choices that are available on the mainland are available in Hawaii. National news, including all of the major networks, and cable channels like CNN and the Weather channel are also available. Your hotel room should have a channel guide near the television set.
Hawaii news channels are important to watch everyday if you are on vacation. Since most of the activities are outdoors, it important to look at the local forecast to see if it predicts that there will be inclement weather. Check any policies from tour operators before you make payment for their services. They all have different restrictions on rain checks and refunds. Some tour groups and outdoor performances will go on as scheduled and require that you show up in person to get a rain check. Others will deliver their service regardless of weather with no refunds. For example, a Kayaking company may say, “We go rain or shine. You’ll get wet any way, so there are no refunds.” Other vendors may allow a cancellation 24 hours ahead of time if there is a particularly severe storm coming in.
Hawaii news channels can also help you get more acquainted with the area. They all have local segments that highlight festivals and events that you might not be aware of. As well, they report any traffic hold ups, closed roads, closed beaches, rip tides, and airport delays. If the worst should happen; they also report on hurricanes and typhoons and even have lava advisories. In case of emergency evacuation, they also report on what precautionary steps you should take. Hawaii news channels will tell you what areas will be hit hardest, who needs to evacuate and where they need to go.
Hawaii news channels also include cable access news and a variety of other programs that discuss issues that pertain to Hawaii. If you are interested in the local culture or politics, these shows will give you a local on perspective of what living on the islands is like.

Booking A Hotel Room As A Single Person |
Did you know that last year alone, 20% of All holiday makers in the United Kingdom travelled alone? The market for individual holiday makers and travellers is now a very significant part of the travel industry, although often when you look about for good deals for single travellers you would be forgiven for thinking that the reverse was true.
Indeed, it is often the case that people going on holiday alone are penalised for their decision or circumstances, and end up having to pay supplements that leave their bill very little short of what it would have been had they gone on holiday with someone else. It is true, of course, that if 20% of holiday makers are travelling on their own, this means that the vast majority, 80%, are those travelling either as a couple or as a family or other group. Clearly hotels and other holiday accommodation need to cater for the majority of their customers, and so most hotel rooms are equipped with double beds.
A single individual booking a hotel room which has a double bed is effectively taking up two potential spaces that the hotel could have filled, and this could be considered as losing the hotel money. At busy times of the year it is highly probable that by letting a room out to someone staying on their own, they are losing a paying customer, since it is likely that they could just as easily have let the room out to a couple who would each have paid for the room. It isn’t just the room costs of course. The hotel will take into consideration that a couple are far more likely to buy drinks at the bar, eat in the restaurant and generally spend much more money than the individual. This represents a considerable loss, and so by charging a supplement for the individual traveller, they recoup at least part of this loss and make the blow a little less painful.
Despite this seeming to be a terribly unfair way of doing business, at the end of the day, it is exactly that – a business. Let’s not fool ourselves into thinking that hotels are purely there for our holidaying pleasure. They’re there to make money, end of story.
Of course, it is less painful for the hotel if a single traveller is using a double room, but not occupying this at the loss of a couple, since many rooms are vacant, and other customers won’t have to be turned away. In this way, choosing to stay at a time of year that is less popular for couples, such as holiday seasons, or special events, will decrease the chance, or at least the cost, of any such individual supplement.
If a hotel insists on charging you this extra fee, then look into the idea of getting something in return – possible a free upgrade, or breakfast thrown in? If they refuse to meet you part way on this, then it may be worth looking around and finding a hotel which is more amenable. It may well be that the hotel decides at that point that one paying guest is at least something, and offers you something in return.

Information On Going To The Beach In Miami |
One of the main reasons that people like to visit Florida and especially Miami is for the beaches. What is a coastal vacation without a few trips to a beautiful beach? Everyone from the very young to the very old loves to play along sandy shores and splash about in the cool waves of the ocean. Going to the beach is fun for almost everyone, but when you go for the day you will need to be prepared by taking along things that you will definitely need.
Almost anytime of the year can be great beach time in Miami. However, hurricane season can be a little unpredictable. It is always a good idea to check the weather forecast to make sure that your trip to the beach will not be hampered by any bad weather. The last thing you will want to do is drag all your beach gear to the water front only to have your day ruined because you did not see what the weather was going to be like.
If you have picked the perfect day to visit the beach, whether in Miami or anywhere else, you have to be prepared. There will be places along the beach where you can buy your beverages and other sunbathing products that you will need, but they are likely to be a little expensive, so buying these items elsewhere and bringing them with you might be a good idea if you are on a budget.
If you are not partial to sand getting into all your cracks and crevices, a beach chair will be in order. This can make lounging a lot more comfortable and a little less sandy. If you are an older person with health issues or if you are taking children, you may want to take your own umbrella or rent one. The sun at mid day can be brutal at the peak of summer and shade can be a very good thing.
Never forget to take along your sun block lotion or spray. Even though most people love to get a good tan, the sun can be dangerous especially when you allow yourself to get burned. Sometimes skin cancer can be caused from just one such incident and it is totally avoidable with the proper skin protection. Those with sensitive skin and small children really need to be sure and be protected from harmful sun rays.
Make sure you have plenty of water to drink when you are at the beach. You do not want to become dehydrated and sports drinks and colas are not always the best source of hydration. Do not forget to take along some good beach shoes or it will not take you long to figure out why you needed them.

Options For Accommodation In Granda Filed under:

As such, Granada is a popular holiday destination in Spain and it has a number of various accommodation options to house all the tourists that it sees annually.
You can sleep in the majestic hotel that can be found in the grounds of the Alhambra Palace itself. It has a stunning view of the Sierra Nevada peaks and offers all the amenities and conveniences that you could dream of. There is another architecturally pleasing and impressive hotel nearby, named the Alhambra Parador. It is housed in a part-palace, part-mosque that was built in the 1300s. It is an extremely popular holiday accommodation option and you will need to book a room months in advance if you want to stay there.
There are many three to four star hotels in the modern part of the city of Granada. You can also find a number of hostals and pensions which are cheaper options than the hotels. These themselves, vary greatly in price depending on how much you plan to spend. They also vary in quality and it is worth checking them out before you book or following a recommendation from some-one you trust. Some are clean, modern and comfortable, while others may be grimy and rather unpleasant.
There are a number of pensions in the old Arab-Jewish quarter of Albaicin. The 17th century Casa de Alijarife is one of the most charming of these and it is fast becoming a sought-out accommodation venue. It is a fully modernized building, but it features an old-style interior courtyard with a Moorish fountain. It also has gorgeous views of the Alhambra. It is worth booking well in advance if you’d like to stay here as it is very small, but popular.
If you are happy to share, you can choose to stay in a youth hostel. One of these is the Avenida Ramon y Cajal. It has 230 beds divided into two and three bed rooms. It is also an appropriate accommodation option for those in wheelchairs as it has a number of specially designated wheelchair accessible rooms.
You can also choose to stay in a holiday rental apartment. These are self catering and may be a good option for families or large groups who would like a bit more space, freedom and privacy.
You can stay in one of a number of gypsy cave houses that produced some of the most fantastic flamenco dancers that the world has seen. The gypsy cave houses in El Sacromonte have all been converted into modern accommodation options. The cave houses in the countryside have been converted into a form of self-catering apartments.
Traffic in Granada seems to change regularly and parking is difficult so try to choose an accommodation option near to the sites that you will want to visit during your stay in Granada. Otherwise, at least make sure to choose a hotel that has off-street parking facilities.

Holiday Accommodation In Valencia Spain |
There are many options to suit all sorts of styles and budgets. In addition to this, the holiday accommodation options can be found in different areas of the city and so this is another thing that must be taken into consideration when choosing somewhere to stay. Valencia has around a hundred hotels, fifty hostels, 420 apartments, thirty five campsites and two spas so there is certainly generally no shortage of options.
There are hotels that can be found in the center of the city, at the beach, at the modern city of Arts and Science (CAS), at the Palacio de Congressos area and in the bus station area. Valencia is quite a center-focused city and therefore staying in the center is a good option for any tourist who wants to see the sights of the city. Here you will be able to find tourist attractions, shopping, cultural events, vibrant nightlife and tasty restaurants. It can be noisy at night, so keep that in mind. If you find a hotel near a metro station, you will have quick and convenient travel options within the city. It is not within walking distance to the beach so if you want to spend a lot of time on the beach, perhaps you should consider staying closer to coast.
You can find a number of luxury hotels at the beach. If you are looking for a beach holiday, soaking up the sun, this is the place for you. If you are after more from your trip to Valencia, you may however, find it a bit out of the way and boring. CAS is an up-market area with good hotels, excellent shopping and a beautiful view. Unfortunately, it does not offer much else. It is well located between the beach and the center of the city though if you want to spend some time in both places. The Palacio de Congressos area is only well suited to the business traveler as it has luxury hotels, but is far from both the beach and the center of the city.
Hostels are an excellent option for the backpacker or those traveling on a tight budget. They are located in backpacker friendly, vibrant locations. Unfortunately, they are limited and so they book up fast. You will need to reserve a place well in advance if you want to stay in one. Hostals are not the same as hostels. Hostals are small, generally family-run, hotels with dorm rooms. They are cheaper than staying in a hotel, but are not as social for the backpacker as the hostels are. Albergues or pensions may have shared bathrooms unless you pay extra for a private one.
It is possible to find short term or long term holiday apartment rentals. This will suit a family or group of travelers. They offer more space and privacy than staying in a hotel. They are self-catered options and will give you a better feel of the city than in a hotel environment.

Living The Lap Of Luxury Without Breaking The Bank |
Staying in luxury hotels certainly helps to keep all your troubles away and give a taste of the high life. In the past, these kinds of hotels were only made available for the rich and privileged individual; however, times have changed for the better with more hotels offering their unique services to individuals at a cheaper rate. These hotels are often situated in warmer climates, in luxury destinations that attract plenty of tourists.
Many of the luxury hotels offer various services with the majority of them giving unique experiences such as a sauna, steam room, massage, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, spa and beauty, hairdressing and a gymnasium. The hotels are based on their star rating which determines their level of service. Five star hotels are considered the most luxurious and very often the most expensive, but as mentioned earlier these are fast opening up to the wider public.
Staying in a luxury hotel can be considered a holiday in itself. Some of the top end hotels offer golfing, tennis courts and fitness classes. All of which are introduced by hotel reps and staff. All luxury hotels offer restaurant and bar entertainment and depending upon where you go they can very often provide local live music. Many people however, feel that experiencing such joys during a holiday break is difficult to obtain.
The problem is not necessarily the price but the availability. Hotels abroad that do offer five star treatment very often offer package deals or discounts every now and again to promote their services. However, with these offers come more people being attracted and taking up the space very quickly. Some of these offers are served on a first-come first-served basis, which can cause a lot of conflict for those looking to retreat at the same time.
Certainly, the main things that attract people to luxury hotels are the ability to experience the luxury lifestyle, which is usually in the form of being pampered and experiencing exquisite cuisines. Many of these luxuries can be experienced in your own hometown without the need to spend out a fortune on facials and pedicures. The main point in searching for good spa breaks or luxury hotels is making sure that you have a qualified professional tending to you.
The trouble with finding a cheap luxury hotel is that often you will find that you will get for what you pay for, which may mean experiencing only a limited amount of their services. Some packages may include booking a room for a certain number of days, in between a specific periods and receiving the final day free. These packages may include mini-facials, mini pedicure and back massage; I have soon learnt that over the years, the word ‘mini’ can often mean a taster experience rather than a full pampering.
One thing to bear in mind is that you must enquire and be clear about what is services are being offered. This will reduce any problems or issues that may occur when residing at the hotel.
Luxury hotels are ideal for newlyweds and hen nights, as they cater for people looking to relax and enjoy a romantic break away. This is certainly something that does not need to be a one off experience. With the right amount of research and knowing when to book, anyone willing is able to enjoy these kinds of breaks without the worry of falling short on money.
Anna Stenning loves to travel abroad and stay in luxury hotels, as she knows this will help benefit her health in the long run.

Travelling With Your Luggage Safely Filed under:

Even if you do a lot of travelling for business or leisure it’s still very easy to make some of the same mistakes each time you go on a trip. When the worst happens to us then we can easily feel hurt and also stupid for not being cleverer about the situation. Some mistakes you may already be aware of and others might be completely new to you. If you want to travel safely with your luggage then it’s important that you know all the different pitfalls out there.
Some people have the natural gift of only taking the items they absolutely need, the result is that they only need one or maybe two bags. Most people however end up taking various items “just in case” they might need them. The result is that most people don’t even use half of the things they take away with them. Not only are you making life more difficult for yourself in terms of having to carry all these bags around with you, but you’re also putting yourself at risk for a variety of other reasons.
If you and your family are going on a trip, it’s a very good idea to divide the contents up between the different bags. All too often luggage can get lost and the result is that one member of the family ends up with no spare clothes. If the contents are divided up then it means that there will be something of use in every bag. Just as long as not all your luggage has vanished. Underwear is very important to people so having the ability to change into clean underwear even if your suitcase is lost is worthwhile. You might even put a few pairs into your hand luggage just to be on the safe side.
Unfortunately many items of luggage are lost everyday in airports. By simply having your name and destination clearly printed on a luggage tag you’ll have a much greater chance of being reunited with your belongings. Having this info inside your bag can also be a good idea just in case the tag is ripped off your suitcase. As soon as you discover that an item of luggage has gone missing, it’s important that you report it so that staff can have a look for it.
Having certain items easily available to you during a flight is something that a lot of people like which is why carry-on luggage is so popular. However it’s important to understand that there are often weight restrictions and these restrictions can vary from airline to airline. Every year there is problems with heavy luggage falling down and injuring people. Also because of terrorist fears, many items are no longer allowed onto flights. These items include shaving razors, scissors and knitting needles. So find out this info before you go.
Some people will even offer further advice but the above is a good place to start. Travelling can be a lot of fun but things can quickly turn sour if you haven’t prepared yourself properly. Another thing to remember is that you should never leave items of luggage lying around as airport staff might think that there is a bomb inside!

Speeding Skiers Face Jail Time |
Reckless skiing is a real problem in some areas. Those disobeying the speed limit signs in Utah may face jail time and fines.
The speed limit was put in place in certain areas where less experienced skiers are trying to learn the sport. Reckless behaviors of others have caused 10 percent of all collisions in Park City and Deer Valley. A report in the Salt Lake City Tribune states that reckless skiing is now considered a Class B Misdemeanor.
Ski patrollers will be monitoring the slopes in search of people disobeying the speed limits or skiing recklessly. The ski patroller can now call the police, and the offenders may find themselves in court. If a reckless skier is called to court, the patroller will be called in as a witness to the incident. If skiers are found guilty of reckless skiing, they will be fined 1,000 USD and face a six-month jail sentence.
Some ski resorts in Europe are also adopting the ski speed limit, including Switzerland’s Grindelwald and Verbier. Pierre-Yves Deleze with the Verbier Tourist Office said, ‘The idea is to allow beginners to learn without people skiing by them too fast and frightening them.’
The problem isn’t simply fast skiers. Other reckless behaviour also endangers other skiers on the slopes.
‘We did it because that’s what people wanted’, said Susanne Daxelhoffer at the Grindelwald area tourist office. ‘The project is based on complaints of people skiing too fast and therefore fulfills a need’, Daxelhoffer added.
Swiss ski resort Grindelwald was the first European resort to introduce a speed limit on one of its slopes. A growing number of high-speed collisions on crowded slopes helped fuel the decision to implement the 30kmph speed limit. France reported several deaths in the 2006-2007 ski season due to high-speed collisions.
Resort owners hope to combat deaths and injuries by decreasing speeds on crowded and beginner slopes.
Richard Slater, a British skier and father of three told reporters, ‘It’s particularly good if you have young children and want them to be able to ski without being hit by out of control skiers going too fast.’
According to BBC News, a study of 24 resorts reveals that all are keeping an eye on the experimental speed limit enforcements.
Speed limits for skiers and snowboarders might soon become commonplace on slopes around the world. The resorts of Park City and Deer Valley, both in Utah, are the first to implement a fine and jail time. Grindelwald and other European resorts that are adopting the ski speed limit do not plan to fine offenders. There they are simply warned to slow down.
When the proper amount of care and respect are given, skiing in general is a relatively safe sport. Some members of staff and skiers at the affected resorts are torn. They can see the importance of safer skiing, but some feel the punishment far exceeds the crime.
Some skiers see the new law as a way for authorities to control what they do in their leisure time. These skiers feel the law imposes unfair restrictions on a fast-paced, thrilling sport.
Skiers on the other side of the fence believe the law will stop some skiers from recklessly skiing and putting others in harm’s way. This law gives less experienced skiers hope that they can safely enjoy their time on the slopes.
A Swiss insurance group is installing timers on certain slopes. These timers allow people to see their speeds and should encourage them to ski within set limits. Ski resorts world-wide hope the implementation of timers and patrollers will help make the slopes safer for more inexperienced skiers.

What You Can Expect From The Disney World’s Magic Kingdom |
The Magic Kingdom was the first of Orlando’s Disney parks, constructed in 1971. Here you’ll find Alice in Wonderland, Snow White and the seven dwarves, Peter Pan, Mr. Toad and his wild ride, Dumbo, the Little Mermaid, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey, Goofy and Pinnochio!
Parents feel transported back to their childhood, while children experience the magic of Disney. Unlike other amusement parks, at Disney World Orlando every single detail, be it a sign, a plant arrangement, a costumed cast member or music, has been agonized over to transform the illusion into a very real world.
Once guests pass through the Main Street “opening credits,” as the Disneyworld imagineers call them, Tomorrowland appears to the right. This part of the Magic Kingdom was designed to look like the future, as 1920s science fiction writers imagined it. Space Mountain, a fast-moving indoor rollercoaster, is by far the most popular attraction at Disney, as a whole.
Kids will love Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin that puts you right in the middle of an arcade game. Parents will marvel at one of the oldest Disney rides, the Carousel of Progress. Kids will also enjoy the neighboring Mickey’s Toon Town fair, where they can climb through cartoon replica houses and ride Goofy’s barnstormer mini-rollercoaster.
Following the Magic Kingdom around, guests will enter Fantasyland. Your Disney vacation wouldn’t be complete without a stop at Cinderella’s castle! Inside her castle there are the family coat of arms and mosaic murals. The second floor houses Cinderella’s Royal Table restaurant but you’ll need a reservation to get a seat.
The Cinderella Suite is also on one of the upper floors of the 180 feet tall castle and is one of the most coveted prizes Disney has to offer. However, for the other guests, Fantasyland has many low-impact rides, suitable for young children. “It’s a Small World” is a popular ride here, as is the Mad Tea Party and Cinderella’s Golden Carousel. The Pinnochio Haus is a great place to grab double cheeseburgers and “Figaro” fries on the cheap!
The next Magic Kingdom land you’ll find yourself in is Liberty Square, home to the Hall of Presidents, the Liberty Square Riverboat and the extremely popular, and spooky, Haunted Mansion. The exterior of the Haunted Mansion was completed in 1963, but the imagineers couldn’t decide what to do with the interior until 1971, when it finally opened!
Inside this Gothic 18th Century Hudson River Valley manor, you’ll find 999 spectacular ghosts! The mansion is more “cool” than seriously terrifying, but you may not want to bring very young children all the same.
In Frontierland, you’ll find Splash Mountain, one of the best rides Disney has to offer! This is not your typical log flume ride. Once inside, you’ll move through the story of Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear with over 100 animatronics and you’ll experience a series of unexpected twists before taking the final 52 foot plunge into the thorny briar patch below. In this part of the Magic Kingdom, you may want to grab a turkey leg, stop in to the shooting gallery or watch the Country Bear Jamboree, where animatronic bears sing their country hearts out!
You’ll cross a wooden plank bridge and find yourself suddenly in Adventureland, a fun and diverse section of Magic Kingdom. Here you’ll find the Pirates of the Caribbean ride with incredible detail built into each animatronic pirate – including facial expressions, hairy legs and all.
Sing along, narrowly miss flying bullets, pass through jails and experience the marketplace with Captain Jack Sparrow and Captain Barbossa. On the Jungle Cruise, you’ll tour four continents and see Cambodian tigers, headhunters, hippos, elephants, ancient temples and giant butterflies from your swampboat.
Disney resorts like the Contemporary and the Polynesian are located right next to the Magic Kingdom theme park. You can arrive at any theme park via the Contemporary resort’s monorail, which runs right through the building, making it the most convenient accommodation. However, the Polynesian has a really excellent “Spirit of Aloha” Dinner Show. These accommodations are some of the pricier resorts, averaging around $329/night.
The Magic Kingdom is home to several special events. First of all, the Disney Dream Come True parade passes by three times daily. There’s also a nightly Spectromagic parade, which never ceases to amaze with its fiber optics, neon lights and holograms. As it gets darker, you won’t want to miss the Wishes Spectacular fireworks display above Cinderella’s castle – set to music and narrated by Jiminy Cricket and the Blue Fairy. Whether young or old, it’s moments like this you will always treasure.
